Lap-Band Adjustable Gastric
Banding System

The Lap-Band is designed to help you lose excess body fat. It is an adjustable ring that is surgically placed around the upper portion of the stomach. This creates a small pouch and in essence makes your stomach smaller. This pouch can only hold a small amount of food. The result is that you limit your food intake with less hunger. With a new, sensible diet and exercise, the Lap-Band can help you lose weight.

The Lap-Band is usually placed with laproscopic surgery. This minimally-invasive technique uses several small slits in the abdomen rather than one or more large incisions. After laproscopic surgery most patients feel less pain, experience fewer wound complications and can recover and resume normal activities sooner.

A significant advantage to the Lap-Band system is that it is adjustable. The ring around the stomach can be inflated or deflated using a safe saline solution. As you progress in your weight-lose program, there are many reasons you might need to adjust the amount of food you eat. These include changing nutritional needs, pregnancy and illness. The Lap-Band can be easily adjusted without additional surgery.

The Lap-Band system is meant to be used as a long-term implant. But it is completely reversible. Since the digestive system is not cut or stapled, the stomach typically returns to normal after the Lap-Band is removed.

Remember that the Lap-Band system by itself can not solve your problem. Losing weight depends on your motivation to a healthier lifestyle and new eating habits.
