Reductions/Closures

Purpose:
In order to comply with the Essentials of Accredited Residencies for Graduate Medical Education: Institutional Requirements, this policy is set forth by the The University of Arizona/UPHK Graduate Medical Education Consortium Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) to assure that all residents are sufficiently informed regarding a reduction or closure of their training program.

Policy:
After review by the GMEC, program directors are required to notify residents of any changes as soon as possible. In the event of such a reduction or closure, the departmental residency training program and the The University of Arizona/UPHK Graduate Medical Education Consortium will make every effort to allow residents already in the program to complete their education. If any residents are displaced by the closure of a program or a reduction in the number of residents, the program director is required to make every effort to assist the residents in identifying an ACGME accredited program in which they can continue their education.
