Mitchell H. Sokoloff, MD, FACS
Chief, Division of Urology
Professor of Surgery

Dr. Sokoloff is an academic surgeon-scientist and board certified in urology.  His specialties include combining surgery with innovative drug therapies for patients with high-risk, aggressive and advanced cancers and to use minimally-invasive and non-surgical treatments for early diseases.  Dr. Sokoloff' specializes in: robotic and open nerve-sparing nephrectomies for kidney cancer; management of recurrent cancers after radiation or chemotherapy; and prostate cancer screening and prevention. His clinical specialties are: treatment of prostate, kidney, and testis cancer and robotic surgery.

 

Martin Dresner, MD, FACS

Professor of Surgery

Dr. Dresner is a board certified urologist and a Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Arizona.  He received his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA.  Dr. Dresner completed his residency in general surgery at Martin Army Hospital in Ft. Benning, CA and his urology residency at Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco, CA, followed by a fellowship in pediatric urology at the Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL.  His clinical specialties are urology and pediatric urology.

 

Joel Funk, MD
Assistant Professor of Surgery
Director of Urology- The University of Arizona Medical Center - South Campus

Dr. Funk is a board eligible urologist and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Arizona.  He attended medical school at Northwestern University Medical School and completed his general surgery and urology residencies at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center.  Dr. Funk is currently the only doctor in Southern Arizona to perform Holmium Laser Treatment, also known as HoLAP (Holmium Laser Ablation of the Prostate) to treat men with BPH (or benign prostatic hyperplasia).  His clinical specialties are: general urology, pediatrics, BPH, female urology, laparoscopy and has advanced training in HoLAP/HoLEP.

 

Matthew B. Gretzer, MD
Director of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgery
Assistant Professor of Surgery

Dr. Gretzer specializes in the surgical treatment of prostate cancers; in particular, open and robotic nerve-sparing prostatectomy.  He has particular expertise in the management of urethral stricture disease and is one of a few Arizona urologists that routinely perform complex urethroplasty.  In addition, he also has expertise in the surgical management of male incontinence and complex urinary diversion/reconstruction following prostate and bladder cancer surgery.  His clinical specialties are: general urology, BPH, prostate cancer and urologic oncology, pelvic laparoscopy, robotic prostatectomy, and genitourinary reconstruction.

Mike M. Nguyen, MD
Director of Minimally Invasive Urologic Surgery
Assistant Professor of Surgery

Dr. Nguyen attended medical school and completed both general surgery and urology residencies at the University of California at Davis School of Medicine in Sacramento, California.  He is fellowship trained in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery for prostate, renal and bladder cancers and ureteral obstruction/hydronephrosis. He is also fellowship trained in endourologic and percutaneous surgery for urinary stone disease.  Dr. Nguyen's clinical specialties are: general urology, renal cancer, prostate cancer, and urinary stone disease.

Martin Schiff, MD
Professor of Surgery

Dr. Schiff attended medical school at Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina.  He completed his surgery residency at the University of California Affiliated Hospitals in San Francisco, California and at Duke University School of Medicine.  He completed his urology residency at Yale University Medical Center in New Haven, Connecticut.  Dr. Schiff's specialties are: general urology and pediatric urology.

Christian O. Twiss, MD
Director, Female Urology, Pelvic Medicine, and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery
Assistant Professor of Surgery

Dr. Twiss provides treatment for many urogynecologic & urologic conditions including: urinary incontinence, vaginal prolapse, voiding dysfunction and neurogenic bladder, and vaginal and pelvic reconstructive surgery. He completed a multi-disciplinary fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS), Female Urology, and Urodynamics at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Twiss also specializes in BPH and interstitial cystitis.

Jonathan Walker, MD
Assistant Professor of Surgery

Director of Urology Residency Program
