Nephrology is a medical specialty that deals with the structure, function and diseases of the kidneys. This specialty provides diagnosis and treatment for kidney impairment, diseases with blood and/or protein in the urine, hypertension, kidney stones, electrolyte abnormalities, and genetic renal diseases. Because most renal conditions are chronic, UPH nephrologists provide long-term care to their patients including close follow-up after renal transplant.
Special programs Renal and hypertension clinics provide diagnosis and management of all kidney diseases, electrolyte disorders and hypertension, as well as long term care of chronic kidney disease including anemia management. Rapid diagnosis is available through ultrasound technology. Phone: (520) 694-8888
Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Clinics provide transplant recipient and donor evaluations as well as follow-up after kidney and/or pancreas transplantation. Phone: (520) 694-7365
Dialysis: Hemodialysis moves blood through a machine to filter out waste and extra fluids, and is the most common treatment for advanced and permanent kidney failure. Peritoneal dialysis removes body waste by passing blood into a solution in the abdomen, which can then be drained. This treatment allows a patient with kidney failure to receive dialysis at home. Both treatments are available to UPH patients. Phone: (520) 626-6370
