Cardiology at UPH is dedicated to the study and care of the heart and circulatory system. UPH cardiologists contribute to the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease through research, education, and patient care.
They conduct clinical tests to diagnose or rule out illness and disease (such as stress tests and echocardiograms), prescribe medications and perform procedures to restore patients to health, and educate patients on how to live heart-healthy lives.
Special Programs
The Sarver Heart Center is dedicated to the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease through research, education, and patient care. Phone: (520) 694-8888
The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program educates individuals with heart disease about symptoms and management to help improve their coronary risk factors. Participants are encouraged to stop smoking, lose weight, lower their blood pressure and cholesterol, and reduce emotional stress. Phone: (520) 694-2476
Enhanced External Cardiac Pulsation (EECP) is an outpatient, non-invasive treatment program for patients with chest pain who aren't responding to medical therapy, or are not likely to benefit from further cardiac interventions or surgery. Major Areas of Research
UPH cardiologists conduct research in the areas of heart disease, heart failure, physiology and pathology of vascular circulation, cardiac arrhythmias and resuscitation. A special emphasis (is this word change okay?) is on cardiovascular disease in women, the elderly and Native Americans. UPH cardiologists are passionate about the prevention and cure of cardiovascular diseases caused by the buildup of fatty substances in the arteries. Most of the research is conducted at the Sarver Heart Center.
Clinical Trials
A number of clinical trials are on going to determine better methods of therapy. Sarver Heart Center is also working toward improvements in the delivery of cardiovascular care on a community level with special emphasis on heart disease in women, heart failure and resuscitation.
