Did you know that volunteering at hospitals is one of the oldest volunteer traditions in the United States? Volunteering at The University of Arizona Medical Center - South Campus is a rewarding opportunity that helps nurture personal growth as well as the individual care for each patient and their loved ones. The University of Arizona Medical Center - South Campus and Outpatient Clinics is a growing academic hospital and volunteering plays a vital role in the healing of patients and assisting their families. Volunteers support physicians, staff and management in many different areas in the hospital.
If you have a passion to serve and a particular skill to share, please join The University of Arizona Medical Center - South Campus Blue Shirts, the name given to our volunteers. We are a team of dedicated adults, college students, and members of society who like to meet, greet and serve in a variety of ways.
Volunteer opportunities include:

- Administration

- Clinics

- Gift Shop
- Greeters at the Front Desk
- Intensive Care Unit
- Medical Surgical Floor (Restricted to Nursing students and junior, senior and Bachelor degree students preparing to apply to nursing school.)
- Outpatient Surgery
- Translators
- Pre Med Emergency Program (Restricted to junior, senior and Bachelor degree students preparing to apply to medical school within the current year.)
Volunteer Qualifications & Expectations
- All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age to enter the program.
- The minimum requirement for volunteering is 4 hours per week for at least 12 months.
- Students are required to volunteer 50 hours per semester and must keep a diary of their experiences to be turned in at the end of their semester.
- The hospital requires that all volunteers provide documentation of the MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccine and recent TB test results (from within the past 90 days). We recommend that students working in the Emergency Room get a Hepatitis B Vaccine. Flu shots are provided to all volunteers.
If you have not fulfilled these requirements and you are accepted into the program, Volunteer Services will schedule an appointment for you with The University of Arizona Medical Center - South Campus Employee Health at no charge to you.
If you choose to see your own primary care provider, the cost incurred for the tests and shots will be your responsibility and not the responsibility of The University of Arizona Medical Center - South Campus Volunteer Services.

Should your application be approved, please be prepared to click on the links below, download and complete the following forms prior to your appointment. It is required that the document be printed, read and signed. Note that three references are also required. Please bring the completed forms to your initial meeting with Maureen Shea at The University of Arizona Medical Center - South Campus or you can also mail the documents to Maureen at the address listed below.
