Occupational Therapy

We help patients optimize their quality of life through improvement of their abilities to perform tasks in everyday living and work environments.

Our occupational therapists test and evaluate the physical and mental abilities of both outpatients and inpatients.  Patient performance is analyzed to determine realistic individualized rehabilitation goals.  Activities are selected that will help the individual learn work and life management skills, within the limits of their mental and physical capabilities.

  • Neurological problems-stroke, TBI, GBS, MS, Parkinson's, ALS
  • Musculoskeletal Disorders-arthritis, osteoporosis, post-op hip provided AD and teaching
  • Cardiopulmonary Disorders-cardiac myocardial infarction, COPD
  • Sensory Disorders
  • Injuries-upper extremity amputation, hand injuries and spinal cord injuries
  • Cognitive and Psychomotor Disorders-apraxia, perceptual-motor and visual perception

Additional Service

  • Occupational Therapy provides site supervision for graduate and assistant level OT students who would like to persue a career in rehabilitation.

Janice Dedrich, OTR/L, BS
Janice has been working in the occupational therapy field since 1988.  Prior to coming to Tucson in 1995, she worked with children with developmental and physical disabilities and acute care/trauma patients.  She has served on a multidisciplinary neurological team treating adolescent, adult and geriatric patients with spinal cord injuries, strokes and brain injuries.  Upon reaching Tucson, Janice continued to work in an acute and outpatient rehabilitation hospital setting as well as seeing patients in their homes and has worked in skilled nursing facilities.  Janice has been treating acute care patients and outpatients at The University of Arizona Medical Center - South Campus since 2007.  She also serves as part of the multidisciplinary team with UPH Hospital's MDA/ALS clinic.  Janice has received additional training in a variety of specialties including trauma, Kinesiotaping, craniosacral therapy and emotional release, strain and counterstrain, myofacial release, neuroperceptual motor and arthrokinetic therapy.
