UPH Hospital PhotoUPH HOSPITAL
UPH Hospital (formerly Kino Community Hospital) was once operated by Pima County and served a largely underserved population in the county and beyond.  The hospital continues in this mission, and is now operated by University Physicians Healthcare, the medical practice of physicians of the University of Arizona College of Medicine.  UPH Hospital is the largest acute-care psychiatric facility in the state, with 64 psychiatric inpatient beds, a 14-bed geriatric psychiatry unit, the only psychiatric emergency room in the city, and 12 psychiatrists on staff.  UPH Hospital is also expanding with a recently opened outpatient UPH psychiatry clinic.  Another 12-bed psychiatric unit will open scheduled for October 2009.  In 2011, an entirely new psychiatric hospital and clinic will be built on campus and be ready for occupancy. 


hosp2.jpgUNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER (UMC)
University Medical Center (UMC) is a private, not-for-profit, 355-bed hospital affiliated with the University of Arizona.  Established in 1971, UMC is Arizona's only academic medical center.  Its mission is three-fold:excellent patient care, educational and research.  University Medical Center is the primary teaching hospital for the University of Arizona Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing as well as UA Centers of Excellence such as the Arizona Cancer Center, the UA Sarver Heart Center, the Steele Children's Research Center, the Arizona Respiratory Center and the Arizona Arthritis Center. 


image003.jpgVA MEDICAL CENTER TUCSON
The VA Medical Center located at Tucson Arizona is the "Flagship" for the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) which serves over 150,000 veterans located in eight counties in southern Arizona and one county in western New Mexico.  This 283-bed hospital provides training, primary care and sub-specialty health care in numerous medical areas for eligible veterans.  SAVAHCS also provides our veterans with the best quality care at seven Community Based Outpatient Clinics located at Safford, Casa Grande, Sierra Vista, Yuma, Green Valley, Northwest and Southeast Tucson.  SAVAHCS has been serving veterans since its dedication on October 13, 2008.  This 80th Anniversary year saw the opening of a new Mental Health Care Building on the medical center grounds and the opening of a new Southeast Community Based Outpatient Clinic.  In the area of education SAVAHCS has affiliations with over 70 academic institutions.  SAVAHCS plays a vital role in Arizona health care education as the principal affiliate with the University of Arizona's College of Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy.  Each year over 700 physicians, nurses and other health care professionals from educational institutions across the country receive training at SAVAHCS.  Virtually all SAVAHCS staff physicians hold faculty appointments at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. 


image005.jpgSONORA BEHAVIORAL HEALTH
Sonora Behavioral Health is a 56-bed hospital dedicated to the treatment of behavioral health and chemical dependency issues affecting children, adolescents and adults.  Sonora is the only hospital in Southern Arizona that focuses on the unique needs of children and adolescents, and it is the provider of choice in Southern Arizona for many commercial health plans.  Sonora provides a safe, structured environment through the delivery of individual, group and family therapy and medication management.  The individualized treatment programs for youth and adults are designed to provide medical detoxification from alcohol and/or drugs, and to treat acute psychiatric syptoms such as suicidal or homicidal thoughts.  Sonora provides an intensive outpatient chemical dependency treatment program for adults.  This program is designed to address the emotional, psychological and social impact chemical dependency has on the individual and their family.
