Application Process
The application deadline is December 1, 2009.
PGY-1 PGY-1 applicants must submit their applications through ERAS. The program does not accept applications materials for PGY-1 positions through the mail, fax, or e-mail.
- First register with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), 2450 North Street NW, Washington D.C. 20037-1127. Email NRMP
- Then submit your application through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service).
- Contact your Dean's Office for further information regarding this process.
PGY-2
PGY-2 applicants must have successfully completed a PGY-1 year in an ACGME-accredited residency program by the time they enter the Program. This program may be in psychiatry or in another field of medicine. Applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis to determine if prior rotations will satisfy the Program's general medicine requirements.
A full application consists of a completed formal application, personal statement, curriculum vitae, a letter from your training director listing rotations and dates when these rotations occurred, three letters of recommendation, Dean's letter, transcripts and USMLE scores. Submit applications directly to the Psychiatry Program by U.S. Mail or fax (see contact information below).
International Medical Graduates
International Medical Graduates are welcome to apply to the Program. International Medical Graduates must be certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) located at 3624 Marketing Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104-2685. Phone: (215) 386-5900. We will sponsor J1 Visas if necessary.
The Program reviews all applications and selects the most qualified candidates for an interview. The Program receives many more qualified applications than can be interviewed. Various factors affect the decision of whether to interview a candidate, such as clinical experience and interest in psychiatry, medical school experiences, USMLE scores, and letters of recommendation.
To be considered for an interview, applicants must have
- had some clinical experience in psychiatry
- graduated from medical school within the past 10 years
- passed both USMLE steps 1 and 2
- have an excellent proficiency in both written and spoken English.
Beyond these criteria, the Program prefers applicants who passed the USMLE without any prior failures, graduated from medical school within the past 5 years, have U.S. clinical experience in psychiatry, and have research experience in psychiatry. Applicants are invited for an interview through e-mail.
