ROTATIONS The following is a typical rotation schedule. Rotations take place at University Physicians Hospital (UPH), University Medical Center (UMC), and the Southern Arizona Veterans Health Care System (SAVHCS). All are within a 5 mile distance from UPH. The rural rotation takes place at Indian Health Services (IHS) in Sells, AZ and a daily shuttle is available to transport you back and forth to Tucson. Opportunities are also available for short away rotations to the Hopi and Navajo Nations in northern Arizona.

AMBULATORY EXPERIENCE The ambulatory care experience is central to the training of the general internist and is critical for a physician practicing in more remote or underserved areas. This experience begins in internship with a weekly continuity clinic that continues through all three years of residency. Under close supervision from a general medicine faculty mentor, residents will manage a panel of clinic patients with a wide variety of chronic illnesses and socioeconomic backgrounds. Additional ambulatory experience will be obtained from rotations through medical subspecialties as well as geriatrics and emergency clinics, with ample exposure to orthopedic, ophthalmologic, dermatologic, and HIV related issues. Rotations through the IHS clinics will allow exposure to the unique needs of the Tohono O’odham and Pascua Yaqui Tribes.
CALL Call for Interns is generally every fourth night when assigned to General Medicine Wards at UPH. We do not have a night-float rotation.
