 The University of Arizona/UPHK Graduate Medical Education Consortium Family Medicine Residency Program provides an opportunity for ambitious physicians to master the broad skill set needed for practice in multiple settings, especially in underserved and rural areas. Our program is fully ACGME-accredited. We offer the best of many worlds. Primarily based at University Physicians Hospital, our residency's family physicians are at the center of leadership and patient care. Our training also includes rotations at rural clinical sites throughout the state of Arizona. We also are proud to be part of The University of Arizona, where the Department of Family and Community Medicine is one of the strongest in the nation.

Number of Residents - Eight Family Medicine residents will be selected each year. In the upcoming 2010-2011 academic year, second year Family Medicine resident positions will also be selectively available to highly qualified applicants with appropriate prior training in accordance with American Board of Family Medicine rules.
Length of Program - We provide three years of graduate medical education in Family Medicine in accordance with ACGME requirements.
Experience - Clinical: Our Family Medicine clinic and primary inpatient training site is at University Physicians Hospital on the Kino Campus, a few minutes south of the center of Tucson. Inpatient maternity care and pediatric training occur primarily at University Medical Center in Tucson. Our residents also will complete six months of required training at rural sites throughout Arizona.
Didactics: Several hours are dedicated to didactical learning every Thursday afternoon during "Teaching Day." Residents attend morning reports on weekdays. Residents may participate in longitudinal training in medical Spanish, as well as integrative medicine. Our residents' academic experience is further enhanced by our participation in shared didactics with other departments on campus.
Research: Our sponsoring Department of Family & Community Medicine is one of the top research departments in Family Medicine in the nation. During their training, residents complete a scholarly project. For any residents wishing to do additional research, there are many opportunities with extensive academic support.
Fellowships: Sports Medicine, Faculty Development, and Integrative Medicine fellowships are offered.
