Application Procedure

Thank you again for your interest in applying to our program.  Positions are offered through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).  Applications are accepted only through ERAS.

Our official program name is University of Arizona/UPHK Graduate Medical Education Consortium Program.

Our ACGME program number is 1200331692

The application deadline is December 1, 2009.  Applications received after the deadline will not be considered for an interview.

A complete application consists of:

  • ERAS
  • Personal Statement
  • 3 Letters of Recommendation
  • Dean's Letter of Proof of Graduation
  • Medical School Transcripts
  • Curriculum Vitae or Resume-Please explain any gaps in training since graduation.
  • USMLE or COMLEX scores.
  • If you have not graduated within the last 5 years, ongoing clinical responsibility and/or residency/fellowship training is required.
  • Contact the Dean's office of your medical school for further information regarding this process.

Please note that as a condition of employment, all new University of Arizona residents must obtain a valid fingerprint clearance card, in accordance with A.R.S.S 15-1881, and pass a criminal background check.

INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL GRADUATES APPLICATION PROCESS
International applicants must meet the following additional requirements:

  • Six months US clinical experience is desirable, but not mandatory.
  • Applicant must have passed USMLE step 1 and USMLE step 2 (CK and CS).
  • USMLE step 3 is not required to begin residency training.
  • ECFMG certification is required.

VISA INFORMATION
For our international applicants, the program considers sponsorship of only J1 visas.  Any premium processing fee is the responsibility of the applicant.

INTERVIEW DAY
We will hold interviews on Thursdays - November 5, 2009 through January 28, 2010-excluding holidays.
Please also note that Tucson has two family medicine residency programs-both affiliated with the University of Arizona.  Applicants who are invited and schedule to interview with both the University of Arizona/UPHK as well as the University of Arizona program will have the UA/UPHK interview on Thursday afternoon and the UA interview on Thursday morning.

Hotel accommodations are unfortunately not provided, however, we do have a host hotel that offers special rates for candidates interviewing with our program.  Information will be sent to you once your interview has been confirmed.
