Fellowships
As part of our commitment to lifelong learning and professional development, The University of Arizona Department of Emergency Medicine offers several fellowship opportunities for sub-specializiation. If you are interested in applying for a fellowship position, please contact us.
Research: The research fellowship is a 2-year, supervised career development experience to give EM physicians the knowledge and skills to advance the state of the art of Emergency Medicine. Graduates of the fellowship will be prepared to compete for extramural funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) or other organizations. The experience is tailored to the individual's background and needs and will consist of a candidate-specific mix of didactics, clinical training and focused research projects, culminating in the development and submission of an NIH Career Development Award ("K series") grant. Contact: Kurt Denninghoff (kdenninghoff@aemrc.arizona.edu).
Medical Toxicology Fellowship: The Department of Emergency Medicine is pleased to announce ACGME approval for its new fellowship in medical toxicology. The University of Arizona/UPHK GME Consortium Medical Toxicology Fellowship is a two-year program based out of University Physicians Healthcare Hospital (UPHH), a 120-bed tertiary care hospital and Level 1 psychiatric facility with 45,000 emergency department visits annually. Medical toxicology also consults at University Medical Center, the largest tertiary care hospital and the only Level 1 trauma center in Southern Arizona. Fellows will work closely with the Arizona Poison and Drug Information Centers and the Toxic Exposures Clinic. The didactic curriculum includes lectures, conferences, and formal coursework in the University of Arizona Colleges of Pharmacy and Public Health. The Section's board-certified medical toxicologists have held multiple leadership positions in the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology, the American College of Medical Toxicology, the Medical Toxicology Subboard of the American Boards of Emergency Medicine, Preventive Medicine, and Pediatrics. We are committed to both education and research, with a special emphasis on envenomations, withdrawal, occupational exposures, and preparedness. The international headquarters for the Advanced Hazmat Life Support course is based here and is co-sponsored by the Arizona Emergency Medicine Research Center and the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology. Start date is flexible between July 2011-January 2012. To explore the outstanding opportunities of our fellowship, please contact:
