University Physicians Healthcare is a nonprofit corporation founded in 1985 as the medical practice of the physicians of The University of Arizona College of Medicine. Together with University Physicians Hospital , The University of Arizona and University Medical Center, we care for patients, educate medical students, train physicians and conduct clinical research. With over 350 physicians (many listed in The Best Doctors In America) 260 nurses and 1,250 staff, UPH is Arizona’s largest physicians group.
UPH doctors perform heart, bone marrow, and liver, pancreas and kidney transplants. They care for the severely injured at the UMC Trauma Center and University Physicians Hospital Emergency Department. Our physicians provide state-of-the-art medical and surgical care in nearly every specialty area including cancer, cardiology, arthritis, orthopaedics and women’s and children’s services at clinic sites in Tucson and Sierra Vista.
UPH doctors also conduct advanced research at the Arizona Cancer Center, the Steele Children’s Research Center, the Arizona Arthritis Center and the Sarver Heart Center. Our physicians are directly involved in educating medical students and training post-graduate resident physicians. Some are authors of textbooks commonly used in medical schools around the world, many are widely published in research journals, and others are actively involved in research funded by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, National Cancer Institute as well as private agencies.
