OVERVIEW
Southern Arizona's newest academic medical facility, The University of Arizona Medical Center - South Campus (Hospital) provides patients with direct access to the expertise, groundbreaking research and latest treatments of The University of Arizona College of Medicine.
The comprehensive medical center and hospital that features nationally and internationally recognized clinics, programs and UA faculty physicians. The University of Arizona Medical Center - South Campus has been ranked as one of the 100 Best Value Hospitals in the United States as part of the Hospital Value IndexTM. The University of Arizona Medical Center - South Campus & University Campus were the only two Tucson hospitals listed in the 100 Best Value Hospitals Index.
New additions to the campus will be built on the 70 acres surrounding the hospital, creating numerous specialty treatment centers, as well as advanced teaching and state-of-the-art research facilities.

HISTORY
In 2010, UPH and UMC officially merged and became known as UA Healthcare. In 2011, both UPH and UMC became known as The University of Arizona Health Network. University Physicians Hospital Kino Campus became The University of Arizona Medical Center - South Campus. University Medical Center also changed its name to The University of Arizona Medical Center - University Campus. We're proud to be a part of The University of Arizona Health Network, expanding the quality and variety of care for Southern Arizona while training future generations of physicians.
In June 2004, The University of Arizona Medical Center reached an agreement with Pima County to assume full control of the 197-bed Kino Community Hospital.
The 50-year lease agreement included $127 million in funding from Pima County over 10 years to re-establish the South Campus Hospital as a full-service hospital and outpatient treatment center.
Per the lease agreement with Pima County, The University of Arizona Medical Center is restoring the hospital to full-service, as well as improving patient care and training programs. The following advances have been completed:
- March 2010: UPH Hospital opens an outpatient specialty clinic in Green Valley.
- October 2009: UPH Hospital holds a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Behavioral Health Pavilion and Crisis Response Center, expected to open in August 2011.
- September 2009: Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic opens in UPH Hospital Clinic.
- July 2008: As part of The University of Arizona/UPHK Graduate Medical Education Consortium, UPH begins the first two of seven new residency programs at the hospital.
- June 2008: Cath Lab opens with state-of-the-art equipment.
- June 2008: University Physicians Hospital is ranked as one of the 100 Best Value Hospitals in the United States as part of the Hospital Value IndexTM.
- January 2008: Second CT scanner is installed (64 slice).
- April 2007: The only sports medicine facility in Southern Arizona opens on the campus - Arizona Institute for Sports Medicine.
- May 2006: UPH Hospital becomes base site for new UA College of Medicine residency programs.
- May 2006: $36 million in bonds approved by voters to expand and improve the psychiatric inpatient hospital facilities at University Physicians Hospital.
- May 2006: $18 million in bonds approved by voters for a specialized psychiatric urgent care facility at University Physicians Hospital.
- March 2006: Toshiba EXCELART Vantage MRI System installed.
- August 2005: UPH moved all its neurology services into renovated clinics, expanding programs and adding new physicians. The clinic now offers the widest range of neurological services in the area.
- July 2005: UPH took over management of the Emergency Department and recruited additional physicians.
- July 2005: A combined pediatric and emergency medicine residency program was established. It is the third such training program in the US and the only one west of Indianapolis.
- May 2005: $1.5 million da Vinci surgical system installed as the first in Southern Arizona, used for nissen fundoplications, myomectomies, hysterectomies, pelvic reconstruction procedures and radical prostatectomies.

Together, University Physicians Healthcare, The University of Arizona, University Physicians Hospital and University Medical Center combine to care for patients, educate medical students, train young physicians and conduct clinical research.
