University Physicians Healthcare (UPH) is a nonprofit corporation founded in 1985 as the medical practice of the physicians of The University of Arizona College of Medicine. In 2010, UPH and University Medical Center (UMC) officially merged and became known as UA Healthcare. In 2011, both entities became The University of Arizona Health Network. University Physicians Hospital Kino Campus became known as The University of Arizona Medical Center - South Campus. University Medical Center also changed its name to The University of Arizona Medical Center - University Campus. We're proud to be a part of The University of Arizona Health Network, expanding the quality and variety of care for Southern Arizona while training future generations of physicians.
Together with The University of Arizona Medical Center - South Campus, The University of Arizona and The University of Arizona Medical Center - University Campus, we care for patients, educate medical students, train physicians and conduct clinical research. With over 450 physicians (many listed in The Best Doctors In America) 800 nurses and over 2,000 staff, The University of Arizona Medical Center is Arizona’s largest physicians group.
The University of Arizona Medical Center doctors perform heart, bone marrow, and liver, pancreas and kidney transplants. They care for the severely injured at the University Campus Trauma Center and the Emergency Department at South Campus. Our physicians provide state-of-the-art medical and surgical care in nearly every specialty area including cancer, cardiology, arthritis, orthopaedics and women’s and children’s services at clinic sites in Tucson and Sierra Vista.
The University of Arizona Medical Center doctors also conduct advanced research at The University of Arizona Cancer Center, the Steele Children’s Research Center, the Arizona Arthritis Center and the Sarver Heart Center. Our physicians are directly involved in educating medical students and training post-graduate resident physicians. Some are authors of textbooks commonly used in medical schools around the world, many are widely published in research journals, and others are actively involved in research funded by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, National Cancer Institute as well as private agencies.
